Removing Stains From Upholstery & Fabric

Upholstery is very prone to getting stained and dirty. Whether we eat, drink, sit, play or do anything we are directly or indirectly in touch with the upholstery and thus making it stained or dirty. There are various ways of removing stains from upholstery that we will discuss here.

While choosing and buying your upholstery you should know the fabric details of it. In most of the cases manufacturer write on the tag about the fabric of the upholstery and the best method used for it's cleaning. Sometimes the precautions are also there on the tags.

Usually on the tag, the information about the best cleaner for the upholstery is given in the form of the Alphabets. If the alphabet is ‘W', it means that only mild detergent can be applied in cleaning the upholstery and the best way is to clean it with plain water. In case the alphabet is ‘S' then we should spot clean it in an open air room. If it is ‘SW' then we can do a spot clean and use mid detergent with it. If it is ‘X' then it means that you can not apply any detergent on the upholstery and can only vacuum clean it. You should not go for such carpets if your house is full of kids and pets as it would never be easy to clean. It is always good to have these details about your upholstery before buying it.

Whenever anything spills over you upholstery, don't let it be there for a long time. Otherwise it can become permanent. Immediately remove the spillover and take whatever actions you can take to clear that spillover.

If you have bought new upholstery for your furniture and wish to clean it then the first step is to test the cleaning process first on a very small area of the upholstery. The testing process gives you the confirmation of the cleaning process. If the test area looks goof after cleaning then you can go for it for the whole upholstery.

If you love your upholstery, whatever the stain is never rub it very harshly to remove it. The reason being rubbing the upholstery too harshly damages the fiber and your upholstery would never look the same as it was bought in the beginning.

We should learn to maintain our upholstery on a regular basis. The first step towards it to vacuum it on a regular basis and make sure we never miss the upholstery cleaning turn. The calendar should be fixed in advance.

An equal mixture of vinegar and slightly warm water is good mix usually to clean up usual spillovers like grease or something that has sugar in it.

For cleaning Tea stains, mix one tea spoon of any detergent with lukewarm water and blot the spillover area with it. And then after this, take a 65% solution of vinegar in water. And clean the stain area with it. This process has proved to be helpful in cleaning most of the upholsteries with different types of fabric.
