Color makes a difference in your quilting

Recently I received a call from my daughter for help in assembling a quilt. My interest was arrested. My daughter does not is a Quilter. His mother-in-law had sewn the blocks of the Cross as a gift. Brigette wanted (my daughter) to assemble the blocks. Not knowing how to put a quilt together, Brigette Mom called.

A few weeks later, we met to review blocks. The blocks were of a pattern of Iris. The flower of each of Iris was sewn into a deep and rich purple with bright green foliage. Although I am not a lover of the cross stitched blocks, the blocks were particularly beautiful. The color contrast blocks was surprising and participate in this quilt was arming going to be fun and exciting. I did not know the challenges of the coming weeks could bring.

Owning an online business quilt fabric, there was much material to use in the audition process. The blocks were 18 inches square on a white background rigid. With the block size in mind, choose a strong Deep Purple, weighing on the purple iris. I had 3 fabrics in the mind and the hearing began. Hmm, not those that did not work. About 14 purple cloth later, I decided to try a yellow color. Why yellow? The fall in the Iris There was a touch of yellow and sometimes the color is a perfect touch of color for use at the border.

Ok, the yellow did not work. All tissues used to now or were lost in the quilt, the quilt will look flat, or apparently lifeless. This was proving more complicated than originally thought. So far, all my options has been solid colors or at least the tone on tone fabrics. Perhaps necessary to establish a pattern.

I used a pattern of fear because did not want the border to compete with the blocks of flowers. Taking 1930's my abode print fabrics, the audition process began again. Realizing that the width of the border can make a difference, each fabric was wide compared an audition. What width would work: ½ inch, 1 inch, 1 ½ inch or so on?

After reviewing more than 30 fabrics, I have not had the proper color scheme. At I went fabric shopping. Four fabric shops and countless canvases later, the result remained the same: no winner. What do I do? My daughter is telling me and the mother-in-law is calling "often" to see if it makes the quilt. The pressure was on.

When all else fails, take a break. Get your mind off the problem. Focusing on another project. This is exactly what I did. I started making a block Kumiko Sudo. For a distraction, the collection Kumiko Sudo block must live up to their expectations. It turned out the proposed right to open their eyes to the possibilities available color for my daughter's quilt. What There are green? Why I had not thought of using green?

So the process began again. Each fabric was an audition for the pattern, color and width. Still not had a winner. Then I remembered a green cloth that he had bought some 5 years ago. I liked the fabric, I bought 5 meters him. The material had been used in 5 previous quilts that were in my hiding place with a balance of 3 meters, enough for this project.

The green fabric stash had hints of green, yellow, white and lime in a circular pattern on a lime green background. As soon as the material is placed against the block of Iris, bingo, I had a winner. The next step was to decide the width of the block edge. I chose the edge of 1 inch and a half for each block and began to cut the strips immediately. Laying out the quilt also took a little imagination. With 16 blocks to work, I decided to place 4 blocks each in the top row and bottom. The center rows 2 each had 2 blocks. This left a large hole in each side. Wanting to keep the focus in the Iris pattern in the blocks, I decided to put a large white piece on each side. The work would be 2 rows high and 1 wide. To accentuate the blocks Iris quilt, I would ask the Quilter machine to design a floral motif in these major areas of friction. With the complete design, the quilt was ready to assemble. Joined in the ranks, I realized how beautiful the quilt would end.

The quilt is necessary an inner and outer border. Once again, I went my hiding place and found a purple pinstripe lime green for the inside edge. This tissue had not worked for the border of the blocks, but now, as the inner boundary, always the perfect internal frame. I rebuilt this strip pinstripe, a set white and lime green fabric block border. In this part of Gaza, cut off the external borders of 6 inches. The icing on the cake was now.

The process has been challenging, but the rewards are spectacular. The day I gave this to my daughter, I saw to see if she saw what I saw on the bedspread.
