Knit Fabric

I have a simple question about woven fabrics of polyester .....?

If you notice, clothing like shirts and other garments made of material extending about ... usually the material is 50% polyester 50% cotton ... none of these tissues are the only elastic .. so why then is spreading like a fabric blend ?..... also, as a bonus question, if you will account of the knitted fabric will extend far in one direction, but very little, if any, in the direction 90 degrees to it .... why is that ?.... brainiacs on any fabric there ... I have to know this .....~

Without pretending to be a brainiac textiles. I think it's because the "knots in the fabric." Fiber is not long - but how of knots. How about an explanation?
