The drapes need to be hemmed up because of the window A/C unit.

Insert a tension rod at the hem.

Lift the tension rod/with drapes up and under the drapes to where the drapes no longer block the unit and insert the rod inside the window frame - like a roman shade without the rings, tapes, cords and sewing machine.

Adjust the tension of the rod as needed so it stays put inside the window frame and no hemming will be needed.
