We will discuss fabrics such as cotton, wool, nylon, polyester and other materials many natural and synthetic fabrics. The information is presented on the history, manufacturing methods, characteristics and uses of different tissues. Information on care tissue will also be presented.
This is the second in my series of fabric characteristics (the first was on cotton) and again we will back to the beginning of another natural fabric, silk. Silk dates back as cotton as a material in which clothing and material were made of. Silk was a material that separates man common to the elite of the population in the early stages. Evan Today, silk is commonly used by the upper class of society.
History:
The exact history of silk is somewhat of a mystery. Historians say that silk production, called Sericulture, originated in China 10,000 years ago. However, ancient Chinese legends contribute the origins of sericulture to the Empress of China If Ling Chi who ruled in 2,600 BC.
The story goes that If one days Empress Ling Chi was sitting under a mulberry tree in the palace garden drinking some tea. A cocoon of a silkworm fell into his cup of hot tea. He saw that the silk fibers of the cocoon began to unravel in the hot liquid. She was recognized as the goddess of silkworms.
The silk production developed slowly in the manufacturing process in China by the 14th century. Silk production became a cornerstone of the Chinese economy, where the silk is used for instruments music, fishing lines and bowstrings. Silk was also used to pay civil servants in China as a reward from the rulers. The CIC also is used in China's foreign trade to exchange for spices and jewels brought from India.
The Chinese kept the secret of silk production to themselves for over two thousand years. It was so secure that the death penalty was placed on the perpetrators of the silkworm eggs smuggled cocoons, or mulberry seeds out of the country. But buy the year 200 BC the secret of silk spread to Korea and then slowly in the rest of Asia and India.
It was not until the 13th century that production silk reached Italy when Persia sent 2000 skilled silk weavers. Thos led to the production of silk throughout Europe. Although silk production has spread worldwide, China is still the largest producer of silk in the world today.
Manufacturing Process:
The manufacturing process of silk begins silkworm with its natural ability to produce silk fiber and spin their cocoons with him. There are basically two types of silkworms. One is the silkworm feeds on oak leaves and produce silk tush. The other butterfly mulberry silk, produces high quality silk called Bombyx Mori. This worm feeds on mulberry leaves. The silkworms spin a cocoon that contains an average of 300-400 meters of silk fiber. Takes up to 5500 silkworms to produce 2 pounds of raw silk fiber.
The production of silkworm cocoons to make silk filament is called sericulture. Sericulture is done under controlled conditions and environments on silk farms. Worms silk raised from eggs and allowed to go through its life cycle. The optimal time for harvesting silk is in the bud stage.
Cocoons are collected and sent to the textile factory called. Here the cocoons are unwound into silk strands and collected in rolls. The operation consists of four separate operations:
• Classification of the cocoons, cocoons are sorted by color, size, shape and texture.
· Softening; sorted cocoons are involved in a series of hot and cold solutions to soften the fibers to allow relaxation.
· Filament winding consists of unrolling the cocoons and twisting the wires together to make a silk thread.
· Rescue; The silk thread is wrapped in skeins and packed in small packages called books. Books are put into bales and shipped to factories where silk is woven into the material.
Features:
Silk is a fiber protein that gives the silk material its characteristics. Silk has a high tensile strength, but not to heavy use or abrasions. Seda become brittle when exposed to sunlight, high alkalinity, acids, or oily soils silk fiber breakdown. The appearance of silk depends on the size of the silk yarn used for making fabric. Large yarn may make the material appear more like cotton or synthetic fibers. Small and refined yarn will give the silk material silk touch and see what we expect.
Uses:
Silk is still today the main material used to make our best clothes Warm. Luxury clothing, including fine silk suits and evening gowns are made of finer silk material.
Other uses of silk material are:

For the most part silk garments should be dry cleaned to avoid the damage of a break fibers. Some silks can be hand washed and line dried or tumble dried with low heat. Silk garments are also known as wash and wear material as it is resistant to wrinkles.
Silk material is prone to moth attacks especially when in storage. Silk clothing should be stored properly. They can be wrapped in cotton or other breathable fabric. Silk should not be stored in sealed plastic or other containers that can trap wetter. This can lead to mildew and yellowing.
