how to buy enough fabric?

I sew some curtains for my bedroom. I calculated that it takes two 84 inches of fabric to cover the window length wise and height 46 inches of fabric wise. Will I need to sew the fabric together in some way? I have sewn long before, but always small objects. How will go hand in hand since the fabric is 36 inches in a one direction? Someone help me explain. The curtains are supposed to be easy!
